Keep recording with the screen off

Make sure your phone lets Byker record the whole ride.

Updated 18 October 2026

Byker keeps recording with your screen locked and the app in the background. Your phone needs to let it.

On Android

  • When you start your first recording, Byker asks to keep running in the background. Tap Allow, or some phones pause Byker to save battery and your ride records as a straight line.
  • Allow notifications too. While recording, Byker shows a Recording your ride notification with the distance and time, and Pause, Resume and Stop buttons, so you don't need to open the app.

On iPhone

While Byker records, your phone shows the blue location indicator at the top of the screen. Allow Byker to use your location While Using the App: that's all it needs.

If a ride records as straight lines between points, check your phone's battery saver settings for Byker.
