How Byker keeps you private

What Byker does with your location, rides and photos.

Updated 18 October 2026

Rides can show where you live, so Byker is private by default.

  • Your rides are private until you publish or share them.
  • Hide exact start and finish keeps the first and last 500 m of a ride to yourself.
  • Photos have their location and other hidden details removed when you upload them.
  • Your location is used on your phone to centre the map and find rides near you, rounded to about 1 km. It's never saved.
  • Recordings stay on your phone until you save the ride.
  • Location sharing is always your choice, ends by itself, and keeps only your latest position, deleted when you stop.
  • Your birthday, gender and email are never shown to other riders.
  • No adverts, no advertising trackers, and your data is never sold.
