Report a camera van, road closure or biker down

Tell other riders what's on the road right now.

Updated 19 October 2026

The Alerts view on the Map tab shows what riders should know about right now. Every alert is reported by a rider.

Report one

  1. Stop somewhere safe. Reports only work while you're stopped.
  2. On the Map tab, with the Alerts view showing, tap + and choose Report a camera van, Report a road closure or Report a biker down.
  3. Choose whether it's where you are or at a Waypoint you place on the map, and fill in what you know.
  4. Tap Send report.

The kinds

  • Camera van: parked up and checking speeds. Shows for 2 hours from the last time a rider confirmed it.
  • Road closure: why it's closed, how much is closed, and the diversion and end time if you know them. Shows until that time, or for 24 hours from the last confirmation.
  • Biker down: how bad it looks, whether help is there, and whether the road is blocked. Shows for 2 hours, or until it's cleared.

Who's told

When you report an alert, Byker tells:

  • riders going to, or interested in, an event whose route passes it while it lasts;
  • riders with a ride in their Planned rides that passes it;
  • riders sharing their location within 5 miles.

Each rider is told once about each alert. Riders choose these under Camera vans and Map alerts in their notification settings.

Biker down: call 999 first. Byker tells other riders, not the emergency services. Never add the rider's name, a photo of them or their registration.
