Earn badges for places and rides
Check in at cafés, viewpoints and other biker stops, and start other riders' rides, to earn badges.
Updated 1 November 2026
Badges show where you've ridden. The more places you visit and rides you start, the higher they go: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum.
Visit places
On the Map tab, switch to Places and tap a café, pub, restaurant, viewpoint, picnic site, attraction, campsite or bike shop. When you're there, tap Check in. You need to be within about 150 m (300 m at attractions and campsites).
Recording a ride? Stop at one of those places for 5 minutes or more and it counts by itself when you save the ride.
Each place counts once towards your badges, however often you go back. Byker remembers how many times you've been, up to once a day.
Start other riders' rides
At the start of another rider's ride, open it, tap Ride it, then I'm at the start. You need to be within about 300 m of where the route begins. It counts towards Road Tripper. Your own rides don't count.
The badges
- Café Racer: cafés
- Pit Stop: restaurants and pubs
- Viewfinder: viewpoints and picnic sites
- Sightseer: attractions
- Camp Out: campsites
- Gearhead: bike shops, motorcycle repairers and tyre fitters
- Explorer: every place you've visited
- Road Tripper: other riders' rides you've started
See yours, how far you are from the next level, and every place you've been in Profile → Settings → Badges. Checked in somewhere by mistake? Remove it there.
Your location
When you check in or start a ride, your phone sends its position once, so Byker can check you're there. Byker keeps the place and the day, never your position.
Who sees them
Only you, until you choose. In Privacy and blocking, Show my badges puts them on your rider page, and Show places I've visited shows the places, with the month. Each is off until you turn it on.
